Broadly speaking, the Mediterranean Diet is a daily eating regimen. This regimen - which is part of the lifestyle and culture of many countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea, and hence the name - emphasizes several food items which are minimally processed: fish, fruit, vegetables, whole grains, seeds and nuts, wine and olive oil. Likewise, it also de-emphasizes eggs, red meat, and sweets. Being physically active and enjoying meals with friends and family round out the Mediterranean Diet.

Adopting a daily plan based on these principles yields wonderfully positive results. Start with a sensible meal plan - check out some recipes - and then add our Original Mediterranean Protein Bars as a sensible snack throughout the day.

The Studies

Over the past decade, and in particular during the last few years, several long-term studies involving more than 1,000,000 people, have confirmed the benefits of the Mediterranean Diet. While each study had different parameters or different objectives, each one had very similar conclusions, namely:

      •    A lower incidence of cardiovascular disease
      •    A lower incidence of heart attacks
      •    A lower incidence of certain cancers, namely breast cancer
      •    A lower incidence of Alzheimer's disease
      •    Increased longevity

Without diving into deep biology and chemistry, the scientists attributed these outcomes to the absence of high cholesterol, which is typically derived from red meat, and the presence of good fats, most notably extra virgin olive oil. In fact, extra virgin olive oil was consistently singled out as the most important component of the Mediterranean Diet. Likewise, daily low to moderate intake of alcohol, in the form of red wine, was also consistently included in the positive aspects of the regimen.

The Mediterranean Diet has been scientifically proven to be the best method to live healthier and longer; so much so, that my colleagues and I felt compelled to find a way to educate the public on this regimen and to provide products which make it easy to follow?

Why it works

There are lengthy science-based explanations for the value of the Mediterranean Diet. We'll spare you those. A simplistic explanation is that regimen's reliance on fruits, vegetables, whole grains and fish as its main staples means you get a lot of fiber, complex sugars, and protein without the presence of certain fats which are bad for you. The use of olive oil as the main source of fat - "yes, fat, we said it" - promotes the kind of metabolic processes that improve, rather than degrade, your health.

The short story is that the Mediterranean Diet is a common sense approach to nutrition.
Ask your doctor about it. You'll hear the same kind of response and recommendation.

Why SimpleMD Bars

Even though the Mediterranean Diet emphasizes simple, natural foods, it can still be a challenge to adhere to. Moving to Italy or Greece would help, and so would a personal chef… however neither of these solutions are very practical, and this is where SimpleMD comes in.

Our original Mediterranean protein bars are designed with the essential elements of the Mediterranean Diet front and center. Alone, they cannot contribute every food item in the Mediterranean Diet that we know to be important. However, they do provide a convenient and delicious delivery mechanism for several aspects of the diet, most notably olive oil, which is the central ingredient linked to so many positive health benefits.

SimpleMD bars make it easy to incorporate extra virgin olive oil into your daily routine. Learn how easy it is to add SimpleMD to your life, whether you are looking to lose weight, improve your health, or simply find a new way to snack.
